About Mary of Slowey Photography

Hey! I’m Mary – the girl behind Slowey Photography.

It makes more sense when you know my last name is Slowey. And in case you haven’t noticed, you can likely spot me in the crowd by looking for leopard print.

Before I took my photography hobby and made it my career, I spent over 18 years as a highly competitive Irish dancer, worked a couple years doing promotions for a radio station, and then decided to chase some new dreams.

These days I’m living in Nashville, TN. You can find me at the White Bridge Target or on my phone booking as many trips home to Milton, MA to visit friends, family, and the beach as I possibly can.

A trend created just for me? You shouldn’t have…  No but really, I cry a lot. Enough that I have an album called “This is me crying!” with just selfies I take when I’m crying. Because one way to pull yourself out of the spiral is to look at how silly you look absolutely losing it because someone beeped at you for not flooring it when the light turned green.

I used to get made fun of in high school for crying too much. I’ve sent more than one text to my TCRG apologizing for crying at a major. I’ve been told “maybe owning your own business just isn’t for you if it’s this hard for you to do the work”. Turns out, I actually just had undiagnosed anxiety and crying is my body’s preferred response!!! 🙃

But guess what, if anxiety is going to be a bitch it’s gonna be my bitch. So Imma keep crying in my car before and/or after a shoot, and Imma cry while I edit, and Imma cry while I talk myself in to posting these silly little reels for the silly little likes so I can market my business in the silly little year of 2024.

If you’re surviving and only sometimes partially thriving with mental illness I see you, I am you, and I love ya so stinking much! Keep up the good work.
